Rainbow Bridge is a steel arch connecting the tourist districts of Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York, a short walk from the falls on either side. It opened 1 November 1941.

Can you walk across the Rainbow Bridge?
Yes. It is the only one of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission’s three bridges with a pedestrian walkway — foot traffic is barred from Whirlpool Rapids and Queenston–Lewiston. The pedestrian toll is $1.00 USD or $1.25 CAD, collected entering the United States, so walking into Canada is free.
Can I use the Ready Lane?
What this bridge does have is a Ready Lane — a quicker U.S.-bound lane for travellers carrying a card with a chip a booth can read from a distance: an enhanced licence, a U.S. passport card, or a NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST card. An ordinary passport book does not count, and everyone in the vehicle aged 16 or over needs an eligible card — one passenger without one disqualifies the whole car.
Tolls and payment
Tolls are charged one way, but not the same way for everyone. Vehicles and bicycles pay heading into Canada; pedestrians pay heading into the United States, before entering the walkway. Either way the toll is collected on the departure side, before you cross.
Since 1 August 2026 the booths no longer accept pennies, so bring nickels or larger, or pay by card. Change machines that take both currencies sit by the pedestrian entrance.
Commercial traffic
No. Commercial vehicles are not permitted here. Trucks use the Queenston–Lewiston Bridge, the only one of the Bridge Commission’s three crossings open to them.
Crossing on foot
Pedestrians use a dedicated walkway; cyclists ride in the road lanes rather than on it. Upriver at Buffalo, the Peace Bridge has its own free pedestrian walkway, and those two are the only crossings in this corridor that take foot traffic at all.
