The Queenston–Lewiston Bridge opened on 1 November 1962, a steel arch carrying Interstate 190 on the New York side to Highway 405 in Ontario. Its five lanes reverse direction to match traffic rather than running fixed each way. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission runs it, along with the Rainbow and Whirlpool Rapids bridges.

Can commercial trucks use the Queenston–Lewiston Bridge?
Yes. It is the only one of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission’s three crossings open to commercial trucks, which is why freight in this corridor concentrates here. Trucks are tolled by axle, from $8.00 USD for two axles up to $136.00 USD for twelve, and overhead clearance differs by direction.
Can you walk or cycle across?
Bicycles yes, pedestrians no. Cyclists share the automobile lanes, keeping to the right, and those heading into the United States must check in with the toll captain at the Queenston toll house first. To cross this corridor on foot, use the Rainbow Bridge or the Peace Bridge instead.
What are the NEXUS lane hours?
Into the U.S., Monday to Friday from six to eight in the morning, excluding all holidays — a narrow early-morning window. Into Canada it runs daily from eight in the morning until eight at night. These hours have changed before, so confirm if the lane is why you are choosing this bridge.
Tolls and payment
Tolls are collected one way only, heading into Canada, and unlike the Rainbow and Whirlpool bridges the booth here sits in Canada itself.
One naming trap worth knowing. The Commission’s own prepaid product is branded “Nexus/Toll”. Despite the name it has nothing to do with the NEXUS trusted-traveller card — it is a payment method, priced the same as cash. Holding one gets you no lane advantage.
Trucks: size, weight and surcharges
Overhead clearance is not the same in both directions — a foot lower heading into Canada than into the U.S. — so a load that cleared on the way over may not clear on the way back.
Loads up to 130,000 lb cross without special arrangement. Heavier ones pay a surcharge on top of the toll, starting at $90.00 USD or $130.00 CAD for 130,001 to 135,000 lb. Anything wider than 11 feet must contact the Commission’s Operations Centre before arriving. The bridge speed limit is 15 mph.
The dedicated FAST lane for pre-approved carriers begins about a mile before the bridge, on Highway 405 on the Canadian side, for trucks headed into the U.S. Both driver and carrier must be FAST-approved.
