About this crossing

PedWest is the western pedestrian building of the San Ysidro border crossing, exiting on the Virginia Avenue side. It is walking-only — its CBP record has no vehicle lanes at all — and it keeps shorter hours than the main crossing: U.S.-bound processing 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday. Outside those hours, the main San Ysidro crossing handles pedestrians 24 hours a day.

Quick answers

Can I drive through PedWest?

No. PedWest is pedestrian-only — its CBP record has no vehicle lanes at all. Drivers use the main San Ysidro crossing or Otay Mesa. On the U.S. side the walking route exits at the Virginia Avenue Transit Center, with transit connections onward.

What time does PedWest close?

CBP lists U.S.-bound processing from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday. After that, cross on foot at the main San Ysidro building, which is open 24 hours. No verified Mexico-bound schedule is published, so check locally before a southbound walk.

Does PedWest have SENTRI?

CBP reports General and Ready pedestrian waits at PedWest; it lists no SENTRI pedestrian lane here. Ready Lane takes RFID travel documents and is a different programme from SENTRI, which requires trusted-traveller enrolment.

The building

PedWest opened as part of the $741 million San Ysidro modernization completed in 2019–2020, one of the port’s two pedestrian inspection facilities. The City of San Diego describes 12 entry lanes leading to the Virginia Avenue Transit Center, with onward transit connections.

Mexico-bound

CBP’s schedule covers entering the U.S. only. No verified Mexico-bound schedule or wait is published for PedWest — check locally before planning a southbound walk here.
