Can you walk or cycle across the Blue Water Bridge?
No. CBP publishes no pedestrian lane for this port, and MDOT’s current regional bicycle map states that cyclists are not allowed on the Blue Water Bridge. On foot or by bicycle, plan a different route; call MDOT at (810) 984-3131 if you need current guidance.
What are the Blue Water Bridge hours?
Open 24 hours a day, every day, in both directions, with no overnight closure to plan around. The Canada-bound NEXUS lane runs 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week, and the Canada-bound FAST lane runs Monday to Friday except holidays. CBP publishes no fixed hours for the lanes on its own side.
Tolls and payment
Cars with a prepaid EDGE Pass account receive a $0.50 discount at MDOT’s plaza and can use its automated toll lane.
The Michigan plaza accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit and debit cards, mobile pay, or an EDGE Pass RFID account. The Ontario plaza accepts debit or credit cards and the ConneXion prepaid account shown in the table above.
Height can change the price. Blue Water Bridge Canada applies its commercial per-axle rate to every vehicle 2.45 m (8 ft) tall or taller, not only to trucks. Wide, overweight or long loads incur special-load fees on top of the base toll.
Rates on both sides have changed within the past two years. Confirm the operator’s current figures before departure: MDOT toll rates and Blue Water Bridge Canada toll rates.
NEXUS and FAST lanes
Both programmes operate here. On the Canada-bound side, the FAST lane is a continuous weekday service, not a daytime window: it closes for weekends and statutory holidays.
CBP’s board shows NEXUS and FAST lanes toward the United States but gives no fixed schedule for either. It does publish direct phone numbers: NEXUS (810) 989-8830 and FAST driver (810) 989-8831.

Duty-free shopping
On the U.S. side, the shop is before the toll booths via Pine Grove Avenue (M-25). Once you enter its lot, you must pay the toll and cross into Canada; MDOT says there are no exceptions.
CBSA’s Sarnia (Blue Water Bridge) record lists a Canadian-side duty-free shop alongside highway, rail, export and commercial-release services.
About this corridor
The Blue Water Bridge is two parallel bridges over the St. Clair River between Point Edward, Ontario and Port Huron, Michigan. The original span opened on 10 October 1938 and, after a late-1990s renovation, now carries three lanes toward the United States. The second span opened in 1997 and carries three lanes toward Canada. Both have been in that configuration since November 1999.
The Michigan approach meets the I-94/I-69 interchange; the Ontario approach connects directly to Highway 402. That makes the bridge a direct road link between the U.S. Midwest and southwestern Ontario.
MDOT operates the U.S. plaza. The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited, trading as Blue Water Bridge Canada, operates the Canadian plaza.
