Peace Arch carries Highway 99 and Interstate 5 between Surrey, British Columbia and Blaine, Washington. CBP calls the port “Peace Arch”; CBSA calls it “Douglas” and places it at 220 Highway 99 in Surrey, which is useful when searching for the Canadian plaza.
No. Peace Arch does not process commercial trucks. Use the Pacific Highway crossing about a mile (1.6 km) east, reached by Highway 543 in Washington and Highway 15 in British Columbia. WSDOT, CBSA and CBP independently distinguish Peace Arch from the corridor’s commercial crossing, so truck drivers should not enter the passenger queue.
No. Peace Arch has no road toll in either direction. You still need to plan for the inspection queue and approaching traffic, and transaction-specific customs or immigration fees can apply separately.
Peace Arch is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so there is no overnight gate closure. The NEXUS lanes keep shorter hours: 6:00 am to 9:00 pm entering the United States and 7:00 am to 11:00 pm entering Canada. Outside those windows, NEXUS members use the regular passenger lanes.
The crossing takes its name from the 67 ft (20 m) Peace Arch monument, dedicated on 6 September 1921 by road builder Sam Hill. Its “May These Gates Never Be Closed” inscription marks the peace that followed the 1814 Treaty of Ghent.
Peace Arch Park straddles the international boundary and is maintained in partnership by British Columbia and Washington State Parks. BC Parks warns that visitors may be asked for identification and immigration information by CBSA or CBP. Carry appropriate travel documents and follow officers’ instructions.
The live estimate does not include traffic still backed up on I-5. On a long weekend, the drive to the inspection queue can take longer than the official wait.
