Is Derby Line open 24 hours?
Yes. The crossing tracked here is open 24 hours a day, every day. That schedule does not apply to every nearby facility: two close overnight and another runs around the clock. Check the exact port and its hours before leaving the interstate.
Is there a NEXUS lane?
Only into Canada, and only part-time. CBSA lists a dedicated NEXUS lane Monday to Friday from 3:00–5:00 pm. It publishes no U.S.-bound NEXUS lane, and CBP marks that lane type not applicable, so members entering Vermont should plan on regular passenger inspection.
Can I cross at the Haskell Free Library?
No. Although the building straddles the boundary, the library says it is not a border crossing. Its international sidewalk has been permanently closed since 1 October 2025, except for visitors with reduced mobility. Enter through your country’s designated door and leave through that same door; use an official port to cross countries.
The Haskell Free Library
The Haskell Free Library and Opera House straddles the boundary a short walk from the Stanstead crossings. American visitors enter at 93 Caswell Avenue in Derby Line; Canadian visitors use 1 Church Street in Stanstead.
Its unusual location does not replace border inspection. The library prohibits exchanging goods and arranging cross-border meetings inside. It says visitors should carry identification because U.S. Border Patrol or the RCMP may ask to see it.
