Sumas–Huntingdon carries BC Highway 11 into Washington State Route 9, linking the Huntingdon neighbourhood of Abbotsford with the small city of Sumas. CBSA calls its office “Abbotsford-Huntingdon”; CBP calls the U.S. port “Sumas”. CBSA also lists a rail depot beside the highway crossing.

Sumas–Huntingdon is open 24 hours a day for general traffic in both directions. Canada-bound commercial clearance is different: CBSA processes trucks only Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, excluding holidays. A truck arriving outside that window has no Canada-bound commercial service, even though passenger lanes remain open.

Can I use the trusted-traveller lane?

The U.S.-bound lane changes eligibility during the day. It begins as NEXUS-only, then becomes an RFID-ready lane that also accepts a U.S. passport card, enhanced driver’s licence, or NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST card. NEXUS therefore works in both windows, but it is not the only eligible card after the changeover.

A border post since 1891

A border post has stood here since 1891, when the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad reached the boundary; a Canadian station followed in 1896. The present U.S. station was completed in February 1990 and the Canadian one in 1992.
