The operator’s full fare for a car, light-duty truck or motorcycle is $4.60 USD or $6.40 CAD, effective 1 April 2026. Cash, credit and debit are accepted at the booth, while an IQ Tag account can provide a frequent-user discount based on recent crossings.
Yes. CBP lists the bridge as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Same-day closures or operational restrictions can still occur, so check the live agency boards or call the Sault Ste. Marie port of entry at (906) 632-8822 before leaving.
The sources checked do not publish ordinary-day access for walkers or cyclists. The operator does hold an annual International Bridge Walk and Bicycle Parade each June, closing the bridge to vehicles until walkers clear customs; confirm everyday non-motorized access with the International Bridge Administration before setting out.
The operator’s IQ Tag account discounts the full fare according to use in the previous 30 days: 10% for zero to four crossings, 20% for five to eight, and 35% for nine or more.
The Canadian-dollar rate follows a currency-equity policy. It is adjusted every 1 April and 1 October using the average exchange rate over the previous six months, with the aim of staying within five cents of the U.S.-dollar benchmark. The operator requires payment in full in one currency and does not accept mixed-currency payment.
The limits in the facts above are absolute. An International Bridge Administration escort is required for loads wider than 11 ft 4 in (3.45 m) southbound into Michigan or 12 ft (3.66 m) northbound into Canada. Loads over 13 ft 6 in (4.11 m) wide require the bridge to close to oncoming traffic.
Book an escort at least 24 hours ahead on (906) 635-5255 ext. 0 in the U.S. or (705) 942-4345 ext. 0 in Canada. Escorted loads are limited to 20 mph (32 km/h).
Under the schedule effective 17 June 2026, loads wider than 15 ft (4.57 m) cross on Fridays only; narrower over-width loads may cross Monday through Thursday.
CBP identifies the U.S.-bound port as Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (3803); CBSA’s wait-time feed calls it Sault Ste. Marie. The bridge carries I-75 at the interstate’s northern terminus and connects to Highway 17, the Trans-Canada Highway, through Carmen’s Way, a dedicated Ontario truck route opened in 2006. It is the only crossing on this corridor.
The Michigan Department of Transportation operates the U.S. plaza, while the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited, a Canadian federal Crown corporation, operates the Canadian plaza. The International Bridge Administration handles day-to-day operations under the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority, a joint board whose members are appointed by Michigan and the Federal Bridge Corporation.
