Point Roberts is a U.S. exclave on the tip of the Tsawwassen Peninsula. By land, this gate is its only way in or out. A resident driving elsewhere in Washington must leave the United States here, travel roughly 25 miles (40 km) through British Columbia, then re-enter at Peace Arch or Pacific Highway — two international crossings for a trip within one state.

No. This gate only serves travel into or out of the Point Roberts exclave; it does not connect Canadian traffic to mainland Washington. Reaching the rest of Washington from Point Roberts means driving roughly 25 miles through British Columbia and crossing the border again. Its waits are therefore excluded from the corridor’s lowest-wait ranking.

What are the opening hours?

Point Roberts is open 24 hours a day for general travellers in both directions. Canada-bound commercial clearance is the exception: CBSA provides it Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closes it on weekends and holidays. A truck arriving outside that window has no Canada-bound commercial service.

About the exclave

The exclave covers 4.884 sq mi (12.65 km²) and was home to about 1,191 people at the 2020 census. Its unusual boundary dates to the 1846 Oregon Treaty, which placed the border on the 49th parallel and left the peninsula tip in the United States. British surveyors later asked for it back; the United States declined.

A customs post has operated here since 1914, the current U.S. facility was built in 1998, and this is the westernmost land crossing in the contiguous United States. CBP calls it “Point Roberts”; CBSA calls the same station on Tyee Drive “Boundary Bay”.

Seasonal hours

CBSA defines summer by the holiday calendar rather than fixed dates: from the Friday of the Victoria Day weekend through Labour Day. Winter runs from the Tuesday after Labour Day through the Thursday before Victoria Day, so the changeover dates shift each year.
