About this crossing
Boquillas is unlike any other crossing on this site: a remote port inside Big Bend National Park where you park, clear the port building, cross the Rio Grande by rowboat, and walk (or pay for a local ride) the half-mile into Boquillas del Carmen — checking in with Mexican immigration on arrival. Coming back, a CBP officer inspects you through a virtual kiosk while park rangers staff the building.
It runs Friday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., "until further notice" — and 4 p.m. is the port's closing time, not a promised last boat. Build the whole return trip into your afternoon, especially at high water.
Fees and documents
The rowboat is US$5 round trip, and Mexico's Maderas del Carmen protected area charges a US$7 bracelet on check-in — two separate fees, and there is no bridge toll. Bring U.S. cash in small bills. You need a passport book or card — an Enhanced Driver's Licence does not work here. No food may be brought back north. Day trips need no visa; staying overnight requires a temporary visa.

Can I drive across at Boquillas?
No — there is no bridge and no vehicle crossing of any kind. You cross the river by rowboat (or on foot at low water, only here) and continue into the village on foot or by paid local ride. The nearest road crossing is Presidio, open 24 hours.
